Georges Kettaneh of the Lebanese Red Cross was elected to the Standing Commission by the 34th International Conference in October 2024. He has served in his National Society and in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for more than 30 years with extensive experience in all aspects of their work. Since 2013, he has been the Secretary General of Lebanese Red Cross. In his previous role, Georges built up Lebanon’s Emergency Medical Services system. He also managed emergency relief operations of the Lebanese Red Cross and served as Director of Operations and Disaster Management.
In his leadership and senior management roles, Georges has devoted particular attention to strengthening the legal and statutory frameworks of his National Society, not least to safeguarding integrity and facilitating international aid in the event of crisis and disaster. He has also served in several roles of the IFRC, the Arab Organization for the Red Crescent and Red Cross (ARCO) and the Movement, and as a member of key national government committees, with particular focus on preparedness and response to emergencies as well as health services.
