World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day
On 8 May, we commemorate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, and celebrate local to global humanitarian action. It is a day when we honour the legacy of Henry Dunant, the pioneering volunteer who founded the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement more than 160 years ago. Above all, today is a day that we pay tribute to the millions of volunteers and staff working alongside people in need of protection, assistance, healthcare, social aid and solidarity. #KeepingHumanityAlive

International Conference
The Standing Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent has determined that the 34th International Conference will be held in Geneva from 28 to 31 October 2024. The slogan has been chosen for the 34th International Conference, highlighting the need for enhanced humanitarian action in response to the unpredictability of world events and the growing humanitarian needs.

Council of Delegates
The Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement gathers together all the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the ICRC and the IFRC) to discuss matters concerning the Movement as a whole. This year, it will take place on 27 – 28 October 2024, immediately after the IFRC General Assembly and before the 34th International Conference.

Election of the Standing Commission
The next election of the Standing Commission will be held on 30 October 2024 at the 34th International Conference. The Call for nominations, as well as information and documents about the nomination and election process were issued on 24 April 2024.
